E-Cath® II & E-Cath® II Plus

Continuous Nerve Blocks as Easy as a Single Shot Technique

The E-Cath/ E-Cath Plus system was developed in collaboration with Dr Ban Tsui. It makes the Catheter Over Needle (CON) technique as easy as a Single-Shot Technique. CON techniques offer added value in daily routine as well as for centers that do not work with continuous nerve blocks on a daily basis.

The new E-Cath II / E-Cath II Plus system combines the best of clinical experience and the latest technical expertise.

Quite Easy: CON Technique in Three Steps

1. Placing the indwelling catheter using the SonoPlex® E-Cath II needle

2. Removing the needle

3. Placing the E-Cath II catheter using an indwelling catheter

Allows ultrasound visibility of the needle shaft, needle tip, indwelling catheter and E-Cath II catheter.

E-Cath II /E-Cath II Plus Overview

E-Cath II /E-Cath II Plus Features & Advantages

Bayonet Lock

Ensures a strong connection between the indwelling catheter and E-Cath ll catheter:

  • Engagement can be verified by audible and tactile “click” feedback.
Self-Priming System

As a result of the proximal opening, anesthetic flows between the outer wall of the E-Cath II catheter and the inner wall of the indwelling catheter during injection:

  • Echogenic properties are enhanced.
Two Catheter Layers

Together with the indwelling catheter, the E-Cath ll catheter forms a stable double lumen:

  • This supports the kink stability of the E-Cath ll catheter.
Integrated Injection Tube

It is permanently secured on the E-Cath ll catheter, no additional handling required:

  • Injection takes place directly via the injection tube.
  • Reduces the risk of leakage.
Integrated Stainless Steel Reinforcement

At the proximal end, the E-Cath ll Plus catheter is provided with an integrated steel wire reinforcement:

  • It is designed to facilitate placement of the E-Cath ll Plus catheter.
Sealed Puncture Site

The puncture site is sealed by the indwelling catheter as it has a larger outer diameter than the puncture needle:

  • After removal of the puncture needle, the tension in the tissue is maintained.
  • The risk of leakage1-4 and dislodgement2-4* is reduced.

* Only for E-Cath ll, not for E-Cath ll Plus

Distal Opening
(E-Cath II)

at the end of the E-Cath ll catheter and an additional proximal opening of the E-Cath ll catheter:

  • Designed to allow continuous anesthetic flow even if the distal opening is blocked.
  • Intended to optimize the 360° distribution of the anesthetic.
Closed Tip
(E-Cath II Plus)

with Three Lateral Openings at the end of the E-Cath ll Plus catheter and an additional proximal opening of the E-Cath ll Plus catheter:

  • Designed to optimize 360° distribution of the anesthetic.

SonoPlex® Features & Advantages

Bayonet Lock

Ensures a strong connection between the indwelling catheter and the SonoPlex E-Cath ll needle:

  • The puncture needle is ready for use as it is already preassembled in the set.
  • Engagement can be verified by audible and tactile “click” feedback.
Self-Priming System

Anesthetic flows through the lateral opening between the two Cornerstone segments and forms a fluid layer between the outer wall of the needle and the indwelling catheter:

  • Echogenic properties of the needle shaft are enhanced.
Cornerstone Reflectors

360° graduations on the first 20 mm of the needle in two sections:

  • Optimized ultrasound visibility of the needle shaft4 and needle tip.
  • Increased needle echogenicity at steep insertion angles compared to nonechogenic needles.4,5,6
NanoLine Coating

Ultra-thin insulating layer in the inner and outer lumen:

  • Small and precise electrodes allow for better stimulation success.7
Depth Markings

In solid black:

  • Helps ensure visualization of insertion depth during needle placement.
