Our Diversity is Our Strength

An example of how integration through employment can succeed: since March 2022, the Checherin family from Ukraine has found not only a new home, but also new career opportunities at PAJUNK.

Diversity as a Core Company Value

"For us, diversity is not a goal — it is a lived value," says Bettina Pajunk-Wiedmann, Head of Human Resources and a member of the founding family. Today, the international medical technology company employs around 700 people from 34 nations, with nearly half of them being women. At PAJUNK, diversity is not just a statement on paper — it is reflected in an open company culture where background, gender, or age do not define anyone’s opportunities. "We put people first — not their affiliations," emphasizes Pajunk-Wiedmann.

A Founders' House Becomes a Home

This spirit of openness became especially evident in the spring of 2022, when people were forced to flee Ukraine due to the war and sought refuge in Germany. The PAJUNK founding family did not hesitate: the so-called Founders' House — the former family home of Horst and Heinrich Pajunk — was made available to a refugee family. The Checherin family, along with their three children, moved into the house that symbolically represents the company's beginnings.
"When we learned that this is where PAJUNK’s story began, we were deeply moved," says Vita Checherina. "Today, it is our home — a place of safety and warmth."
She describes their arrival in Geisingen and their first meeting with the Pajunk family as "heartfelt and encouraging."
Openness and warmth defined their start: the warm welcome from neighbors and colleagues gave the Checherin family confidence and trust that they could build a new home in Geisingen.

Professional Integration as a Key to Participation

Today, Vita works in purchasing, and her husband Mykhailo in production planning. Mykhailo’s sister has also found a position within the company. Entering the workforce was not without its challenges, particularly due to the language barrier. But the team stood by their side. “We never felt alone,” says Mykhailo. “Our colleagues guided us, explained things clearly, supported us, and treated us with respect.”
The family’s progress is a clear example of how integration through employment can succeed. This fall, their son Mykhailo will begin an apprenticeship at PAJUNK to become a machine and equipment operator — a milestone that holds great significance for the family. “It shows that the Checherin family has truly found their place here,” says Bettina Pajunk-Wiedmann.

A Culture of Solidarity

This successful integration reflects the strength of PAJUNK’s corporate culture — a culture of solidarity and support. “Our experience with the Checherin family has shown us just how powerful the unifying force of work can be,” adds Head of Human Resources, Bettina Pajunk-Wiedmann. “Through employment, the family was able to gain a foothold, build social connections, and improve their language skills.”
The numerous donations from employees, the open and welcoming atmosphere, and the genuine spirit of solidarity all reflect a corporate culture rooted in community and shared responsibility.

Diversity as a Business Advantage

Diversity also delivers clear business benefits. “Different perspectives foster innovation, strengthen customer focus, and ultimately drive business success,” explains Bettina Pajunk-Wiedmann. That’s why PAJUNK actively trains its leaders to recognize, value, and promote diversity — regardless of religion, gender, background, or age. “We see diversity not only as a social responsibility, but also as a competitive advantage.”
This commitment is something the Checherin family experiences every day. “We feel at home in Geisingen and want to stay. We want to be part of this society and give our children a peaceful future,” says Vita. Her personal goal: to continue developing her professional skills, contribute her knowledge, and help shape the company’s future.
On Germany’s Diversity Day, PAJUNK also encourages other companies to embrace their responsibility. “Diversity is not a challenge — it is an opportunity,” says Pajunk-Wiedmann, echoing this year’s theme: “When diversity wins, Germany wins.”
